41th edition “Ottobrata Zafferanese” 6 – 27 October 2019.

Throughout the month the feast of typical Etna products, every weekend a different festival! The event offers tastings, music, excursions, shows and craft markets. Every Sunday in October in the historic center of Zafferana Etnea (CT) takes place the Ottobrata, an exhibition-market of the typical products of Etna with craft stands and tasting of local products.

The undisputed protagonists of each Sunday in Zafferana Etnea are the typical products of the earth and their derivatives; the visitor attracted by the typical Sicilian gastronomy can appreciate grapes, wine, mustard, honey, apples, seasonal fruit (prickly pears, pomegranates, walnuts, hazelnuts, chestnuts, pistachios), porcini mushrooms from ‘Etna, oil, olives and preserves in oil.

The taste itinerary
Piazza Umberto hosts numerous stands where you can taste the typical local sweets (skiers, zeppole, almond paste, tea leaves), liqueurs, wines, honey, nougat and caramelized dried fruit, pistachio ice creams and many other delicacies. The Villa Comunale near the square, on the other hand, houses the stands of cured meats, typical Sicilian cheeses and food preserves. Not to be missed, then, the various appointments of Slow Food, in Piazza della Regione Siciliana, during which it is possible, through guided tastings, to taste different typical Sicilian dishes.

The itinerary of beauty
The entire journey through the historic center is dedicated to the exhibitions of ancient crafts: the most curious visitor can stop to admire the work of sculptors of wood and lava stone, painters of Sicilian carts, embroiderers, wrought iron workers, puppeteers . Along this route, then, there are several places that host various exhibitions of painting, photography and crafts.

Events
The Ottobrata involves the visitor above all for its festive atmosphere with music and entertainment as protagonists. Every Sunday, at different times of the day, musical or dance performances take place, and for the little ones lots of entertainment and animation with actors, acrobats and acrobats. For the more adventurous, instead, every Sunday excursion itineraries are proposed (some only on request) in the places of greatest beauty and interest in the area.

History
Founded at the beginning of the eighties as a simple exhibition of typical products, over time it has evolved towards a complex and multi-faceted event, which each year attracts some hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over Sicily and not only.
